Incorporating A Formal Look To Home Design

By Jackie Acton

For those who absolute adore the looks of formal hotels and buildings, you may wish you could translate such extravagant elegance into your own home. Beautiful wood floors, intricately carved walls and ceilings, or deep baseboard moldings may be the features you admire in formal homes. But there are several things that you can change in your home to emulate those designs.

Formal homes are usually noticed by their furniture and the way the room is decorated. Items in formal rooms are usually straight and perfect. One item in the room should be the focal point when entering the room. It either could be a piece of furniture, a fireplace, or even a long wall with an art piece.

If you don't have the high ceilings or long windows you still can design your room around the formal style. If you have a great furniture piece which you love, why not place this in the room for comfort and also style.

With formal interiors, the accessories and furniture within tend to be antiques or top reproductions of antiques. Dark woods are used for a rich and dark look, while light woods are used mainly for decoration.

Oriental rugs are a great touch for softness in a design which is so bold and strong. Choosing an extravagant rug may seem awkward at first but it will bring boldness out in your design. You don't want to go to out of the ordinary when choosing a rug but you want it to mimic your style.

If you are looking for furniture to look for soft all you need to do is add a few decorative pillows. Fabrics are the key to making a room look softer and feel a lot cozier. You don't need to go overboard when choosing fabrics to make the room seem more formal. Just choose a few pieces to add into the room's dcor.

Don't be scared to tie in valances and pillows which have fringe. This will add a great little design into your theme. Adding a great runner onto your dining room table which has tassels is another great way to accent a perfect furniture piece.

Try not to focus too much on choosing pieces that match for flawless room symmetry. Instead, choose pieces that are quite similar to each other in terms of style, size, and density. You can also arrange your furniture in pairs of tables, chairs, and lamps for a more formal look.

Living in a formal style home doesn't have to happen in hotels. You can create your own formal design in your home which is budget friendly. It also will not take much time to create an awesome design which you fell in love with at a hotel.
